Olives! I was standing in my pantry, actually going after the peanut butter, when I spied this jar of olives. Besides the fact that I really like green olives to eat, all of a sudden the wonderful colors of these little guys just begged to be painted. I had my spotlight in the studio set up on another still life arrangement and didn't want to move it, so I twisted the gooseneck on the easel light that I have and aimed it at the jar of olives. I make do with what I have, and the only thing handy to raise the jar to the height I wanted was my roll of paper towels. This created a sort of uplighting on the olives that actually has a lot more interest.
I had so much fun with this, that I'm thinking maybe a series of "everyday objects" is in order. Wonder what the next one will be?

What a dreary day! Rain, rain, rain, but at least it's warm enough to rain, and not more snow and ice! Stuck inside with the granddaughters, I thought this day called for some color and a breath of spring. So here's "Bouquet in White Vase".
Floral painting is not something I've done much, so it is always a challenge for me. Have to remember that flowers have 3 dimensional form, so that means shadows and lights, and the bouquet itself has form, so it will also need to be more than a flat shape.
Okay, back to watching our lunchtime movie, snuggled up on the couch together!
Won't be a day I'll get much running done, but it's worth it to spend time with my girls.
