Light Over Franconia Ridge

The Appalachian Trail follows this ridgeline in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. It's one of my very favorite hikes, and, so typical of the Whites - rocky, gnarly and beautiful. I think I am done with this one, but it'll sit for a week and then I'll review. It's for a special project I've been working on.
I wish I was up on that ridge right now. There is still a fair amount of snow/ice on the last 1000 feet of climb to get up there, and so we will probably wait a bit before heading up for an all day ramble on these great trails.

Apple Blossoms, May 21

Our apple trees are in bloom. (I have great hopes for apples later this year!). While these beautiful blossoms are here, I wanted to try to capture them on canvas- they are such a sign of spring here in New England.
This is just a very quick miniature (2.5 x 2.5) oil sketch of the blossoms. Hopefully, I will do a more formal arrangement in a slightly larger format later this week.
It's hard, having to balance both painting and training for ultras. The two activities are pretty much diametrically opposed. And being so far behind in training due to the broken arm and surgery, I simply must get in a certain amount of running or I have no hope of finishing the events I've entered this year. So, that's one reason you're not seeing "a painting a day". I just have to get the gallery commitments met, and then run, run, run the rest of the time.
