Mini's, mini's, mini's!!!
Sharon Arts Gallery in downtown Peterborough, NH will be hosting their annual Miniature Exhibit for the month of December. It's a great show, and I'll have a number of paintings there.
I went really small this year, and have nothing over 4 inches. One painting is only about an inch and a half tall! This one is about 2 inches long, and is titled " Strip Tease". I think still life artists are obligated to paint peeled oranges, for some reason, but I do enjoy painting them.
Here's another, which is a very small copy of a self portrait by Monet. Colors are a little better than they appear in this photo...
And one more.. which is called "Ground Beef". I am not showing my favorite little guys - you'll have to come to the Miniature Exhibit to see all of them!
So much painterly detail packed into such small sizes- they read as much larger! Can I ask what size brushes you used?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful skillfulness!
Thanks, Judy!
ReplyDeleteI used two brushes for almost all of them.. a small #6 flat and a little #2 round watercolor brush for any really small details like bare branches on trees, etc. I like working with flats because the crisp edge can be used for some quite a bit of modeling without getting into
the over-working kind of mode.
I love these! A nice variety of subjects there. I've attempted minis before but find myself getting too involved in the details. Yours are just right.
ReplyDeletethank you Kerri! I have really enjoyed these little ones... and like you said, the struggle is to find the balance between being painterly and rendering with too much tight detail. I'm glad you think I found that balance....
